[0:00:00] um swearing in and call this meeting officially to order we do not have on the agenda prayer and pledges but I believe we should do that today anyway and so I've asked Gary Jenkins to please come forward and lead us in our prayer and pledges thank you morning mayor councel good morning everybody well that was kind of sad good morning everybody good morning all right that's a Texas good morning all right will you join with me in a word of prayer precious Father in heaven in the name of Jesus we bow before you the author and the finisher of our faith asking you to come and Su with us on this special occasion as the new chief of police is about to be sworn in Travis Griffith we thank you Father for each and everyone that's here we thank you Lord for this servant who has dedicated his life to this community and we ask you to lead him and guide him with wisdom knowledge and Revelation to do his job and his office with a spirit of Excellence as unto you we pray for all of our police officers and First Responders we pray for our mayor our city council members and all of those that are in city government we thank you for all of the law enforcement officials that are here where they be from the state from the county as well as Lord all of our local police officers we thank you for our judge that's here judge Lane Carter we thank you dear Lord for your presence in this place and we seek your face and your counsel so that we will as a city honor you in all that we do this we pray in Jesus's name amen and amen now would you repeat after me the Pledge of Allegiance i al

[0:02:04] to of the United States of America and to the rep for it stands one nation God indivisible withy and for all honor the Texas flag I pledge alance to thee Texas one State under God one and indivisible thank you very much thank we will open this meeting with an opportunity for some public comment issues or concerns not on the special agenda may be raised by the public at this time citizens should speak from the podium address all comments to the Das Begin by stating their name and address or single member District number and limit their remarks to Less Than 3 minutes of course today this is a special agenda and a special meeting so we will consider a resolution canvasing returns and declaring the results of the runoff election held on June 15th 2024 and our city clerk Heather Stasney will present that which I'm going to do the city held their runoff elections Saturday June 15 2024 a Texas uniform election date early voting was conducted weekdays between June 3rd and June 11th in accordance with Texas election code there was one position on the ballot for police chief the vote totals were as follows for the two candidates Travis Griffith received 4,420 total votes or 52.5% and Mike Hernandez received 3,986 total votes or 47 42% the city council officially finds determines and declares the results of the runoff election to elect Travis

[0:04:08] Griffith to a three-year term by majority vote for cast for votes cast for police chief the resolution in the council meeting packet does include a prepared tabulation of votes which we just read for each candidate by Precinct and totaled as required by EC 67.4 may I have a motion to adopt the resolution canvasing the the returns so move second a motion by har and a second by Lucy any public comment concerning uh this uh vote campusing seeing none hearing none we will take a vote all those in favor say I I I motion passes 6 to0 I will now sign the Secretary of stes canvas certificate immediately following this meeting this completes the canvas of the June 15th 2024 runoff election I am now going to introduce our new police chief Travis Griffith [Applause] ready Budd yes sir all right please raise your right hand and repeat after me I I Travis Griffith do solemnly swear or affirm do solemnly swear or affirm that I will Faithfully execute the duties that I will Faithfully execute the duties of the office of of the office of chief of police chief of police of the city of St Angelo of the city of s Angelo the state of Texas the state of Texas and will to the best of my ability and will the best of my ability Preserve pres preserve protect protect and defend and defend the Constitution and laws the Constitution and laws of the United States of the United States and of this state and of this state so help me God so help me God

[0:06:10] congratulations sir thank [Applause] you thank you so much thank you thank you I'd like to welcome up to the front here my wife Vanessa Griffith she's going to be uh pinning me for my first time as a police chief so uh my heart is full right now um I tell you what I see a lot of faces I love and know here um I'm going to do my best not to cry y'all will find out that uh I I'm a little bit of a crier so I'm sorry um the things that I've ran on safety accountability and transparency are not just words they're not just um something to float off in the wind it means something to me it means something to my team and the people that were on my team were um incredible members of our community from all different walks of life and that was very intentional because that's what we want to do as a department and as the police chief right to represent you well and a good friend of mine he's trying to make me not cry right now he said you know when we're looking for a slogan what does that mean for you Travis what does a slogan mean for you and he said I think you're a chief for the people and as I'm standing here swearing in front of you and God Mom not

[0:08:13] swearing curse words um that means that I'm going to hold myself to that and then people around me to hold myself to that um it's important to put the right people around you to support you to keep you grounded in what you do and that's going to be my purpose um is to be true to my my my relationship with the Lord first and foremost keep my family in there too and then everything else will fall into line I think that's that's that's who I am it's what I ran on it's what I stand for um and any one of you guys have the right to flag me down any given time and say hey you're not living up to what you said you would do and I will hear you out and I will uh I will be uh accountable to you that's what was running that on um it's a lot to take in I can't I can't um miss my family here they are um incredible U my wife Vanessa U my daughter Marissa um they have been just pillars throughout this whole time frame um my my son um he is his whole life has been in politics so uh I hope I hope he doesn't follow um my footsteps it's a lot to go through but to you the citizens um I can't tell you how incredibly honored I am to serve as your police chief um this is one of the best communities I've ever seen um doesn't matter where you're from St Angelo can be your home okay and and I believe in this community I believe in what what we can do together um I I'm a big team player and that means working together as as the fire department the police department and city council anybody that's on staff here we're going to be moving forward together for the betterment of you and and not for anybody else um the officers are a super super close second and those officers that are here today again you can hold me accountable cuz I'm here to support you and the mission that you need to do I've said time and time again that it's not about being in charge it's about taking care of those in your charge and I just want to acknowledge uh all the

[0:10:15] elected officials in the room and thank you to Lane Carter uh Sheriff thank you for being here any other law enforcement uh that I might have missed in the here there a lot of lot of faces um so with that I turn it back over to uh to you mayor thank you thank you very [Applause] much this truly is going to be a short meeting because I'm going to now ask for a motion for adjournment so moved by Tommy seconded by Lucy any public comment anybody who'd like us to continue with this conversation okay seeing no and hearing none we'll take a vote all those in favor of adjournment say I I we are formally adjourned and we will now open the room for a small celebration and reception in honor of Travis Griffin's election of becoming our next police chief our current police chief now yeah and it's next door so mayor
